The hills are alive, with…….

Blackberries! No, not that infernal portable device that seems to do everything but mow the lawn. I’m talking about rubus eubatus, the wild bramble that bares that dark, fruity deliciousness used in making jellies, jams, cobblers, and homemade wine.

The tangled mess of wild roses, Virginia creeper, honeysuckle and other various and nefarious weeds and wildflowers that inhabit the slope in front of our humble little cottage on Galena Creek also contains a generous number of blackberry canes. So far, I’ve picked a little over 5 quarts, which should make enough jelly to get us thru the winter. That’s assuming the jelly turns out. I’ll let you know how it goes. In the mean time, I’m going after the makings of a cobbler.
