As we enter into the final days of the season of conspicuous consumption, here are a few of my wishes.

If you drink and drive, please sign an organ donor card. If you’re going to put your life and the lives of others in jeopardy, the very least you can do is give others the opportunity of a better life from your stupidity.

Make sure your purchases have the “Made in the USA” label. Buy locally made gifts from locally owned businesses.

If you dine out, eat at locally owned restaurants instead of national chains.

Commit a random act of kindness. Do at least one thing to help a neighbor.

Remember that the strength of a nation is determined by the way it treats the least of its citizens. Make part of your budget a donation to charity.

Love your children. Give of yourself instead of bribing them with gifts.

Be kind to your pets and other animals. Remember to protect them appropriately when temperatures are extreme.

Forgive someone who has wronged you. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Remember all of the people who make your life easier and thank them appropriately.
