5:00 am Spring arrived Sunday at 2:21 pm. Though a bit windy at times, yesterday was good day to be outside. For the first time this year, I am sitting on the front porch this morning with my coffee, listening to the day wake up. There is a sense of expectation in the fullness of the air. [...]

Do you know about the “LOT 24 PROJECT?” You should. Cellell Dalton and the Wythe County Board of Supervisors have committed 20 million of our tax dollars to this project. It is what’s known in the industry as a spec footprint. There is no tenant, not even the rumor of a tenant. All of this money is [...]

Memo to RCD and The Supes: There is a social networking revolution going on in the world, and it’s coming to a county near you. P.S. Get one of your grandkids to explain social networking to you so you can follow the conversation. ……………………………….. I am still so royally pissed at the loss of the [...]

Last night’s meeting of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors was as entertaining as any traveling circus or tent show revival I’ve ever attended. The wingnuts were out in force, Bucky was glad handing and working the crowd before the meeting started, and extra deputies were laid on in case things got out of hand. [...]

Cellell Dalton waited until near the end of the meeting before he quietly, and a little smugly, read a memo to the Board of Supervisors stating that he had administratively stopped the raises for him and Stephen Bear and asked the Board to formally rescind them. The Board voted unanimously in favor. More tomorrow.

A local farmer said to me recently, “You tell ‘em that if they’re on that Board of Supervisors and their name ain’t Horney, they better find something else to do after November.” I suspect the Board may receive that message in one form or another at tonight’s meeting. Bucky Sharitz and the rest of the [...]

Anne and I spent most of last week with my Mother’s family in North Carolina. My Mom’s oldest brother passed away last Sunday. Walter Roswell Averitt, whom we called Jay, was 86 when he crossed over, following hip surgery at the Veterans Medical Center in Fayetteville, where he spent the last months of his life. [...]

Before I answer that with my two cents, I’d like to tell you where I’ve been for most of the past week. This is going to take some time to write, so I’ve decided to do a series of small posts today and tomorrow. I hope you will check back. First I want to commend [...]

I guess Nikki Shank decided discretion is the better part of valor. Check the stories in both the Wytheville Enterprise and the Carroll County News. Ms. Shank decided that the extra commute would cost more in child care and gas and would take more time away from her boyf…eh…I mean husband so she’s rescinded her [...]
