a public service announcement

Linda Myer, the self-proclaimed head of the Wythe County Tea Baggers, is a frequent commenter on Wythe Notes. Whereas I’m sure Ms.Meyers and I don’t agree politically, I do admire her tenacity. Several of her comments are very valid, however, she posted them in places on the blog that the majority of you have probably not read. As a public service to the voters of Wythe County, I have decided to let Ms. Meyers comments be the subject of this weekend’s post. Play nice kids, she raises a number of issues y’all need to address.

Dear Wythe Notes,
The public hearing on the budget is May 25,2011 @7PM. Taxes are going up/$ is going down/it is impartitive that we be vigiliant about what the county is spending. Cas in point: the county Depts are spending over $25,000 PER YEAR in “DUES” & the Joint Industrial Developement Agency is putting out over $25,000, so together that’s over $50 grand to DUES to state & national entities—–for what???? Would the county Dissolve if we had a hiatus for a year & didn’t pay DUES??? Would “they “(whomever all these dues go to) throw the judge off the bench? Well, let’s ask & all whole lot of other ?’s to. Thurdsay, May 25 @7PM. See you there.

Local Wythe Tea party, which by the way is bi partisan, is hosting a Candidates nite in June (date TBA). All candidates are invited to give their “speal” & ? ‘s can than be directed to them.
This will be a perfect forum to ask pertinent questions about the goings on in our county, answers can be documented & we can “hold their feet to the fire” whomever gets elected. The June date will be forthcomming ASAP. I have made a written request that a copy of the preliminary budget be made available ,perhaps at the library, before the public hearing on it. I will ask again at the 4/12 BOS meeting. After 2 requests & did get a copy of the 2010/2011 county budget at a cost of $51.00. We needed this to compare to what they’re going to do for 2011/2012. You will be VERY surprised to know that WE are giving our BOS FULL MEDICAL coverage to the tune of $38,304/that’s pretty good for a part time job! And they give away $15,600 of your tax money to Civic organizations AND the pay DUES to (?) for $12,000. They’re are LOTS of other interesting ??????? expenditures such as the LINE ITEM in the administrators budget that reads “FRINGE BENEFITS” @ $30,000.
There truly are shanigans going on & we cann’t be asleep at the wheel . We need folks to come to meetings, make a chain, so they know we’re watchin’ em.

Just a not about Prpgress Pk. In the Jan. minutes that were finally published last week, all the BOS voted NOT to appropreiate almost $700,000 for “drainage’. Than in March they voted to do it. So at the meeting 3/22 I asked them why they had changed their minds? Blank-nobody knew why. They asked Dalton & he didn’t know why! Now folks, if you spent $700grand would you remember what on?????
Also the budget meeting are commin’ up/well you might forget about going because they won’t let you ask or say a peep(they told me I couldn’t at last weeks meeting). So let’s just bug the hell out of them for a copy of the prelim budget before the public hearing so we can question their proposed expenditures, like the $30,000 for “fringe” benefits.

    Dear WN,
the term Tea Bagger seems alittle derogetory. I’m a mom, grandma, business person, taxpayer & above all AMERICAN,born & raised. I believe in American EXCEPTIONALISM, WE are exceptional! Nobody in history has given so many lives,$$ & commodities to other countries. At this juncture I want us, all of us, you, me, my neighbors & fellow American to be safe and have the Liberties afforded us by the Constitution & GOD.
I choose to be vocal, & fight for truth, honesty & intergity & fiscal responsibility. I grew up poor, worked my whole life & am thankful to live in America. I’ve been to Europe, had relatives shot when the Communists took over, so I know what can easily happen to life & Liberty. I’ve watched politicans my whole life, & called them on the carpet when necessary, & will continue to do so on a local, state & national level.
So, help me help you & our neighbors & our kids. Your voice is important & you know right from wrong, & you know when WE are gettin’ stiffed! I want the most & best for us all, & I want Liberty, private property, America , English as OUR language & anyone who is not happy with us to leave-yea, go home if you don’t want to assimilate cause I’m not wearing a burka!
So, I guess I’ll be in the Tea Party, Liberty Coalition 9th District, Republican/conservative movement, & for anyone else who wants to get us back to basics ,fiscal responsibility, less laws & taxes, bigger is NOT BETTER!

    BOS meeting of 5/10/2011:
I asked when the copy of the line item budget will be available & Dalton said it will be on line next Fri. 20th. The public hearing for the preliminary budget is now Tues.31st @7PM.
There is an “Indoor Plumbing Rehab Loan Program” available to county residents. For info call the admistrator’s office. Although they allocated 20 grand for the historic survey last meeting, they voted to sign a contract agreeing to “up to $35,000″ with the Va Dept. of Historic Resources. This money will be admistrated by the county for the work to be completed ny 6/2012.
They went thru invoices like gangbusters & spent roughly $724,000 with no explanation or ?’s from the board. According to them the tax rate will remain the same for the next fiscal year.
The Future Business Leaders group of GWHS asked for help with an upcoming sojourn to Orlando , Fl & they allocated $250 for them.
There was alittle chatter about tornado prepardedness but it was all hush, hush & vague.
They went into a “closed” session with a Dr. Hawthorne so I was ushered out. Not a word was leaked as to what that was, so the meeting was over in half an hour. A real dog & pony show,Dalton has them trained!
Just as the meeting was going to start, M. Umberger leaned over to Bear & clerk Martha & asked ” do you still have contractors in to do the books”? They both nodded & said yes. Isn’t it ironic that we have 2 Admistrators with a combined salary topping $175,000 w/o benefits ,over $$200,000 with & we are still contracting ” to do” the books!
Public hearing on the next budget is on Tues, 5/31 @ 7PM. Don’t miss the dog & pony show!

    Dear Ms. Meyer:

Re: “anyone who is not happy with us to leave-yea, go home if you don’t want to assimilate cause I’m not wearing a burka!”

Really? As someone who champions American ideals, don’t you think this comment is rather intolerant and in contrast with those same ideals?

Until a religion (not a violent group acting under the banner of religion . . . which all of the major religions have done in the past), starts demanding that you wear a burka, you should, at the least, attempt to keep your rhetoric in accord with the ideals you support.

However, since I also support the same American ideals you invoke, I respect your right to say whatever you think is necessary. But, under those same rights, I do not have to sit silently without protest as you rant.
