the big lie

July 23rd, 2011 · 4 Comments · musings

Back during the Reagan era when politics started to turn ugly, Lee Atwater, the political genius most responsible for Reagan’s election, came up with the concept of the “big lie.” The way it works is simple. Say something really damaging and untrue about a candidate and make him deny it. The mere accusation will cost the candidate votes. Over the years, as any number of former candidates can attest, it has worked well.

It appears that someone may be attempting this little tactic in our upcoming fall election. Someone is spreading a lie about Robert Kegley, Democrat candidate for Commissioner of the Revenue. So let me set the record straight. Mr. Kegley never said that he had been endorsed by the Chamber of Commerce or the United Way. As the former chairman of both organizations, Mr. Kegley will tell you that neither organization endorses political candidates.

Folks, we have a number of issues to deal with in this election. I hope that the candidates, Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, will use this blog to help get their message out. I also hope voters will voice their opinions. But, NEW RULES. Anyone posting a comment about a candidate or their stand on an issue must use their full name. No hiding behind the anonymity of screen names or first names. As much as possible, this is going to be a fair fight. Got that Curley?

Regardless of the accusation, I in my own opinion do not care about the “politics” of this race. There are certain FACTS here that I want to point out and I am an unaffiliated registered voter:

    — The sheer experience of Faye Barker over Robert Kegley make this race a no brainer. Faye Barker has worked in that office for well over 30 years in fact I believe about 35 years. Robert Kegley has worked in that office for what 2 or 3 years?

—I know that there are die hard voters that will cast his or her vote plainly on party. That will be a huge mistake in this particular race. I am a voter that votes on who will be best for the job, and not base it on party.

I’ll vote for Faye Barker who has worked in that office and has superior knowledge of the postion over Robert Kegley everyday of the week. Faye Barker WILL GET MY VOTE! The only logical choice in this race!

Hmmm… I only saw a FACT included… maybe you had more in mind, but didn’t include them?

Loved CM Walters article in Saturdays Enterprise. Faye Barker is by far the most qualifield for the position and has the higher moral standards.

Reading comprehension??? There are two plainly stated Facts here.

1.) Fact Faye Barker is way more qualified for the job than Robert Kegley based on years of experience.

2.) Fact there are voters out there that will vote on party regardless of expereince and who is best for the job. A big mistake in this race.
