Sharitz Defeated-Republicans Take Control of BOS
With a net pick up of one seat, Republicans have taken control of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors. Newcomer Tim Reeves defeated Board Chairman Bucky Sharitz for the at large seat, and Tea Party backed Artie Hall won over Sis Cassell for the seat being vacated by Democrat Martha Umberger. Democrat Joe Hale defeated Tea Party candidate Buford Bailey in the Ft. Chiswell District to pick up the seat previously held by Republican Maggie Poole.
In the hotly contested race for Commissioner of Revenue, Republican Faye Barker easily defeated Democrat Robert Kegley by a margin of just over 1400 votes. Barker won 60% to 40%. In the race for School Board At-Large, incumbent Deborah Crigger held off a strong challenge by recent George Wythe graduate Lennon Counts.

Great job Wythe County! Faye Barker, Artie Hall & Tim Reeves: Congrats on your well deserved wins.
Transparent government: SUNSHINE OR COLONOSOPY?????
We want, need & deserve both from the county board. Try & make a New Year’s resolution to attend at least one BOS meeting. We have 3 seats open in 2012 locally & we need to be proactive about finding candidates that will work FOR us. The county budget is $92 million & we need to make the board aware that they ARE STEWARDS FOR US!
I’m not a videographier, & would appreciate some assistance with this project to inform everyone, it’s your BUCK too & your participation is important.

Sheriff king addressed the panhandlers that have been around the county. He said several have been delained for various reasons & large some of $ have been found on them. He said these are “professional panhandlers” & advised being cautious with donations to everyone. He is working on making the county inhospitable for them. He asked the county to look into an ordinance for panhandling. The Sheriff also needs a computer tech in the future because of all the computer technology in the cars & offices. He also asked for littered areas to be noted so he can ask for inmate cleanup.
