the grinch who stole christmas

December 24th, 2011 · 15 Comments · local government, musings

I’ve had the hardest time this past six weeks trying to write. I guess I’ve been suffering from some kind of intellectual constipation that also includes this nauseous dread of what the coming year is going to be like. Virginia is one of seven battleground states because of our open Senate seat, and we can [...]

Congratulations to Faye Barker, Joe Hale, Artie Hall, Tim Reeves, Gene Horney and Deborah Crigger. I sincerely wish each of you success when you assume your office in January. If you succeed, we all succeed. The answer to the question of who really won Tuesday is the people of Wythe County. For the first time [...]

cellell dalton is a liar

July 28th, 2011 · 4 Comments · opinion

Actually, I don’t mean to call Papa Doc Dalton a liar. What I mean to call him is a goddamned liar. According to the Wytheville Enterprise, the following is what Dalton had to say about the hiring of Gary Cody to be the Director of Parks and Recreation and Tourism: According to Wythe County Administrator [...]

so what about the $811,146.60?

July 26th, 2011 · 11 Comments · opinion

I see that His Excellency, County Administrator for Life Papa Doc Dalton has appointed a Director of Parks and Recreation and Tourism. Laying aside the fact that Parks and Recreation is a totally different field than Tourism, and the official designation of the department is simply Parks and Recreation, what about the $811,146.60 Dalton has [...]

a public service announcement

Linda Myer, the self-proclaimed head of the Wythe County Tea Baggers, is a frequent commenter on Wythe Notes. Whereas I’m sure Ms.Meyers and I don’t agree politically, I do admire her tenacity. Several of her comments are very valid, however, she posted them in places on the blog that the majority of you have probably [...]

dalton’s folly

March 19th, 2011 · 3 Comments · musings, news, photos

Do you know about the “LOT 24 PROJECT?” You should. Cellell Dalton and the Wythe County Board of Supervisors have committed 20 million of our tax dollars to this project. It is what’s known in the industry as a spec footprint. There is no tenant, not even the rumor of a tenant. All of this money is [...]

It’s facebook time…and time for the board to face the music

Memo to RCD and The Supes: There is a social networking revolution going on in the world, and it’s coming to a county near you. P.S. Get one of your grandkids to explain social networking to you so you can follow the conversation. ……………………………….. I am still so royally pissed at the loss of the [...]

Gov’s ofc: tell wythe county they need to get their act together

March 9th, 2011 · 15 Comments · musings

Last night’s meeting of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors was as entertaining as any traveling circus or tent show revival I’ve ever attended. The wingnuts were out in force, Bucky was glad handing and working the crowd before the meeting started, and extra deputies were laid on in case things got out of hand. [...]

flash: dalton gives it back!

March 8th, 2011 · 1 Comment · news

Cellell Dalton waited until near the end of the meeting before he quietly, and a little smugly, read a memo to the Board of Supervisors stating that he had administratively stopped the raises for him and Stephen Bear and asked the Board to formally rescind them. The Board voted unanimously in favor. More tomorrow.
