Y’all come and bring the young’ns for a little Halloween fun and some trick or treating. And please, buy some of Anne’s baked goods. My girlish figure is going to hell [...]

July 18th, 2011 · No Comments · food, From the Garden, recipes

A stroll through the garden this morning left me as satisfied as I can be. Mostly through Anne’s hard work, things are looking pretty good. The tomatoes are hanging fat and plentiful on the vines. The pepper plants are lush and covered with blossoms. We’ve been harvesting English peas for over a week now. Lightly [...]

One of the major pluses of having your wedding anniversary on July 1 is that the anniversary celebration effortlessly transitions into the 4th of July holiday. Our anniversary is a re-commitment to family; the 4th is a re-commitment to nation. Anne and I have celebrated some memorable 4ths. We grooved to the Good Vibrations of [...]

yummmm….strawberries (homer simpson voice)

May 15th, 2011 · 2 Comments · From the Garden

We’ve picked about a quart and a half of strawberries the past two days from our 5′X4′ patch. Thanks to the wet weather, they are the plumpest, sweetest, and juiciest we’ve ever grown. We added a scant tablespoon of sugar to the first pickings, but we probably shouldn’t have. These little beauties are just fine [...]

what a day!

Saturday’s opening of the Wytheville Farmers Market was the biggest and best ever. I’ll have more later today. Spring allergies are attacking right now, and I’m hoping my head won’t explode.

random stuff and some good news

A couple of thoughts first: Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s leading buffoon, has been trumped twice this week by President Obama. back to our roots

November 4th, 2010 · No Comments · food, recipes

The ones pictured above include heirloom radishes, baby turnips, and scallions from the Artist George Krause, purple potatoes, baby carrots, fresh rosemary and thyme from our [...]
